A challenge to any Hand Hygiene program is sustainability. Due to staff turnover,
relocations and large numbers of student placements at Austin Health, we
encountered some problems ensuring all health care workers are adequately
educated about DeBug use and other aspects of infection prevention. In response
to this challenge an interactive learning package was developed and made
available through the hospital intranet.
Austin Health Executive approved
a Hand Hygiene policy mandating the completion of the learning
package by all health care workers. Current health care workers complete
the learning
package through a systematic targeted approach involving recruitment
of program representatives who are responsible for monitoring the completion
of the
package. Nursing students are also required to complete the package
before their placements at Austin Health.
Staff from Austin Health should complete the package on a hospital
computer (Intranet) for their details to be registered. Go to: Austin
Health Intranet/Departments/Infection Control then select the hand.
